CAMEO IS AN ONGOING SERIES FEATURING CANADIAN JEWELLERY ARTISTS. HERE, THEY SHARE THEIR LATEST THOUGHTS AND INSIGHTS, AND GIVE US A PEEK INTO THEIR PRACTICE.
Describe your current work/practice in one sentence.
My current work tends to blend techniques from across craft disciplines, as well as ideas from across academic fields.
What are three things/ideas that inspire you?
History
Colour
Music
What other things do you do besides your jewellery practice?
I like to write in my spare time, and hope to publish some written work in the future.
Before the Bloom pendant. This was the first commission I ever received through a gallery, and it was to make one of my earrings into a pendant for a client who loved the shape, but didn’t have her ears pierced. The original earrings are a part of a small series I made to explore how the process of hand weaving changes and reacts to different curved forms. I learned a lot from working with gold on this piece, and am really proud of how it came out.
What is a favourite piece that you’ve made and why?
What word pops into your mind when you think of Canadian art jewellery?
Ingenuity
I am working on completing my thesis, and graduating from OCAD in the spring. As well, I am working on an art project with the company TEALEAVES, and I will be participating in Milan Jewelry Week, in the Jewelry Drops exhibition. They are all scheduled to happen one after the other, if not all at the same time.
What is coming up next for you?
