CAMEO IS AN ONGOING SERIES FEATURING CANADIAN JEWELLERY ARTISTS. HERE, THEY SHARE THEIR LATEST THOUGHTS AND INSIGHTS, AND GIVE US A PEEK INTO THEIR PRACTICE.
Describe your current work/practice in one sentence.
Like words of a written language, my jewellery is my language; it is like the words of stories I want to share.
What are three things/ideas that inspire you?
Three things/ideas that inspire me are human interactions/connections, personal experience/emotions, and nature.
What other things do you do besides your jewellery practice?
Drawing and painting, photography, writing and playing music.
My favourite piece is For the home I love, which I made to commemorate the political movement that started in Hong Kong in 2019. It is an important piece for me because it helped me re-evaluate my role as a jewellery artist. It is also the first piece where I expressed my political stance. I believe it is important to not stay silent when I have the right to freedom of speech.
What is a favourite piece that you’ve made and why?
Diversity
What word pops into your mind when you think of Canadian art jewellery?
I am interested in developing and learning more about political art, and create a series of work for my hometown Hong Kong.
What is coming up next for you?
